The Challenge
Making a space of play and inquiry
Brin Gordon is an animator, dramaturg, and pataphysician who needed a website to host their body of work and communicate their artistic philosophy. They wanted a website that aligned with their creative vision and showcased their work in an engaging and playful way.
The Solution
Pataphysics in the realm of web design
As a collaborative project, Brin and I worked together to conceptualize the design, with the challenge of creating a website that effectively communicated their artistic identity and style. I incorporated Brin's custom assets into the site build and blended them with stylistic web features. The playful end result takes inspiration from abstracted narrative structures and the joy of making through experimentation.
Cyclical Structures
To reflect the cyclical work and nature of an artist and animator, I developed a landing page that explores self-management as time changes. Each section explores a different seasonal theme with the landing page in its entirety scrolling on a repeated, infinite loop.
A Body of Work
The primary goal of the website was to showcase Brin's diverse body of work. I developed two sections of the site to showcase different works of art, one strictly for animation and one for personal projects. Each section was designed to highlight the unique aspects of the medium and to celebrate the thought and artistry behind each project.
Play in the Details
I took the opportunity of working alongside an artist to explore the fun and creative side of web design, to seek more than function and relevance to bottom-line goals. The results of this can be found in the playfulness of the smaller details, like different hover states throughout the site. We agreed hidden moments of discovery and delight aligned with Brin's practice.
